In the Limelight

The inaugural Baltimore Comic-Con Spring Fling brought the spirit of old school comic shows to the BWI Airport Marriott in Linthicum, Maryland, on April 9, 2017. The show was a one-room event, but that room was packed wall-to-wall with boxes upon boxes of comics, action figures, and various other collectibles.

Dealers from Maryland and beyond packed the show floor, offering everything from dollar bins to big-time key issues in slabbed and graded form. Plus, a handful of guests were there, including Frank Cho, Steve Conley, John Gallagher, Chris Ivy, Mark Morales, and Brandon Peterson. With the smaller, more intimate comic show environment, it was easy for attendees to get signatures, sketches, or just some quick conversations in with the guests.

Overall, the show was a delight. With how big and media-oriented many “comic-cons” have become over the last few years, it’s nice to see an event crop up that offers an old school, comic-dedicated experience. Hopefully this is something that the folks at Baltimore Comic-Con will offer again next year!
