In the Limelight

During Wizard World Philadelphia Scoop caught up with Nicholas Brendon. The actor talked about what he enjoyed most on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, what it was like reuniting with the cast, what he’s working on now, and his project to discuss depression.

Scoop: Are you having a good time this weekend?
Nicholas Brendon (NB): I’m having a great time this weekend.

Scoop: What was your favorite thing about being Xander Harris?
NB:
I think the comedy, the jokes, the one liners. I just loved them.

Scoop: He didn’t have supernatural powers but he was the heart of the show.
NB:
Yeah. He was essentially Joss Whedon. If you look at it Buffy was probably seen through Xander’s eyes. It was kind of like his POV, showing everything that was going on.

Scoop: What are you working on right now?
NB:
I’ve got a show I’m shooting next month called Wannabes, I’ve got a movie coming out called The Nanny, and one called Milk and Honey, and one called Redwood.

Scoop: And what are they about?
NB:
We’ve got horror, mafia movie, and horror.

Scoop: Do you like horror as a viewer?
NB:
If it’s good.

Scoop: Right, if it’s good.
NB:
Yeah.

Scoop: Favorite horror movie?
NB:
I’m more a psychological guy. I don’t like a lot of blood and [stuff] like that. But, I can tell you when I was, probably 7, I saw The Amityville Horror and it scared the [crap] out of me. So, I’ll go with that one. I just re-watched it a few years ago and I’m like, “Eh,” but when you’re a kid and everything’s real… That window, like, slammed on that kid and I’m like “Oh my God!” The walls are bleeding. You think you’re watching a documentary when you’re a child. So… It scared the [crap] out of me.

Scoop: What was it like getting back together with the Buffy cast for the 20th anniversary?
NB:
It was like a high school reunion. It was great.

Scoop: Did you hang out with each other afterwards?
NB:
No, we just kind of did our stuff. We hung out while we were doing it.

Scoop: We talked about this before the interview, so can you tell me again about the t-shirts you are selling?
NB:
It’s #kickingdepressionintheballsack and it’s kind of my hashtag. I’m very open about my depression and I’m trying to get the word out there and help people as much as I possibly can.

Scoop: Well thank you so much. I’ll let you get back to the fans.
NB:
Thank you!
