While attending Wizard World Philadelphia, Scoop chatted with comic book writer Amy Chu. She talked about working on the KISS comic, being interviewed with Gene Simmons, talked about meeting fans, and what else she’s working on.

Scoop: Are you having a good time this weekend?
Amy Chu (AC): Oh, I’m having a great time. I just did an interview with Gene Simmons, so I’m a little bit [mimics excitement]. That was kind of a trip.

Scoop: That is trippy. You worked on the KISS comic.
AC:
Right, we were talking about the KISS comics and he was saying some really nice things about the story and my writing and I’m like, “Oh, that’s kind of cool.” [laughs]

Scoop: That is cool. Well, KISS has been in comics for a while now.
AC:
Exactly. That’s why I was like, wow, he didn’t have to say all those nice things. Because there’s been a lot of writers before me and a lot of artists, but I’m trying to do something different and he seemed to like it.

Scoop: You said you tried to do something different. What do you mean by that?
AC:
Well, because KISS has been in comics for a long time, so I was trying to do something different. It’s science fiction, it’s set in the future and it’s really taking the whole KISS mythos to a higher level. So, it’s not making them into superheroes or things like that. I was trying to do something sort of a little more cosmic.

Scoop: What are you working on right now?
AC:
I’m still working on KISS, I’m writing issue 10 right now and I’m also working on Red Sonja #7. So I’m working on the two series in parallel.

Scoop: What have people been asking about this weekend?
AC:
Oh gosh, everything. You know, it’s interesting because I have the Poison Ivy fans, the Red Sonja fans, the KISS fans, so everyone asks me different things. I’m also doing a little work for Marvel. I’m doing an Emma Frost story coming up for Secret Empire. I have a really exciting series coming out through Lion Forge at the end of this year. So, it’s kind of a busy time for me.

Scoop: Yeah, it is.
AC:
So, it’s really hard to keep things straight. People ask me really different questions. Here a lot of people ask really general questions sometimes, like “How did you break in? There’s a lot of non-comics fans here who are just like, “Cool, what is this stuff?” I’m happy to answer questions because I think everybody should be reading comics.

Scoop: You mentioned the Emma Frost story in Secret Empire. Can you give me any hints about what the story will be?
AC:
It’s a short story. Short stories are really hard to write. It’s a little vignette within what is going on in Secret Empire. But what’s really more important is that I’m working with Kate Niemczyk from the Mockingbird comic.

Scoop: What conventions do you have coming up?
AC:
Let’s see, HeroesCon. I’ll be at HeroesCon in North Carolina.
