New York Times bestselling author Brandon Sanderson released his debut piece of graphic fiction last week and has already received widespread critical acclaim. Not only did the novel place second on the New York Times Graphic Bestseller List, but the first volume has already sold out at the distributor level with an immense amount of back orders and second printing in the works.
White Sand is an original graphic novel which brings to life a crucial component in Brandon Sanderson's extensive Cosmere universe. The previously unpublished story had been adapted by Rik Hoskin (Mercy Thompson), with art by Julius Gopez (Red Hood and the Outlaws) and colors by Ross Campbell (Pathfinder). White Sands employs powerful imagery along with a celebrated approach to magical systems, creating an incredible new saga for fantasy and adventure lovers.
“I'm thrilled to see the fan base embrace my stories in a new medium, and am thoroughly pleased with the experience of working with Dynamite, and with Rik, Julius, and Ross,” Sanderson said.
“The buzz around this project has been building since we first announced it back in 2014. Excitement for this release reached a fever pitch when Brandon himself announced its release date directly to his fans late last year. Even with impressive preorders and support from both the comic and bookstore markets, the book's success has already exceeded our expectations. We couldn't be more pleased with the initial response, and will ensure that retailers and fans alike are not waiting long for their copies with an immediate second printing,” said Dynamite CEO and publisher, Nick Barrucci.
The Sand Masters can tap into arcane powers to manipulate sand on the planet of Taldain. But after a conspiracy leaves them for dead, Kenton, the weakest of their group, believes that he is the only survivor. Enemies are all around him, so Kenton forges a partnership with Khriss – a Darksider with secrets of her own.
