Netflix has released the first teaser for their upcoming live-action adaptation of Death Note, which will release on the service on August 25, 2017. The film is the first American adaptation of the massively popular anime and manga series by Tsugumi Ohba and Takesha Obata.
The story will follow roughly the same plot: a young man, Light, discovers a mysterious book called the Death Note that gives him the power to kill any person simply by writing their name in it. Light chooses to make the world better by killing criminals – but things quickly get out of hand, and soon the eccentric international detective known only as L is on his tail.
Netflix’s Death Note stars Nat Wolff, Margaret Qualley, Keith Stanfield, Paul Nakauchi, and Shea Whigham. Willem Dafoe will voice the Shinigami (death god), Ryuk.
