Another DC TV show alumnus has joined the cast of The CW’s Supergirl. Erica Durance, who played the savvy, feisty reporter Lois Lane on Smallville, will play Kara’s mother, Alura.

In season 1 Laura Benanti played Alura and her twin sister Astra, the main villain. But, Benanti was working on Broadway so Astra was killed off the show.

“Unfortunately Laura, who Greg [Berlanti] and I have worked with for years going back to Eli Stone, was unable to continue in the role due to work commitments in New York,” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg says. “But we are so blessed that Erica has come aboard to offer her own interpretation of Kara’s mother. We had tremendous success with a former Lois Lane last season with Teri Hatcher. We know Erica will continue the proud tradition of legacy actors joining our shows and creating new and exciting takes on classic DC characters.”

Recently Durance starred on the supernatural medical drama Saving Hope from 2012 to 2017. She joins other Supergirl-Superman-Wonder Woman TV alums Helen Slater, Teri Hatcher, Dean Cain, Lynda Carter, and Laura Vandervoort.

Supergirl returns on October 9, 2017.
