Disney has released the first teaser trailer for their upcoming live-action remake of Aladdin, highlighting the titular character and the mysterious lamp that changes his fate. Also briefly seen are the intimidating entrance to the Cave of Wonders as well as Jafar’s parrot, Iago.

According to the official trailer description, “Aladdin is the exciting tale of the charming street rat Aladdin, the courageous and self-determined Princess Jasmine and the Genie who may be the key to their future. Directed by Guy Ritchie, who brings his singular flair for fast-paced, visceral action to the fictitious port city of Agrabah, the film is written by John August and Ritchie.” It is an adaptation of the 1992 animated feature.

Aladdin’s titular character will be portrayed by Mena Massoud; he is joined by Will Smith as the larger-than-life Genie, Naomi Scott as Jasmine, Marwan Kenzari as Jafar, and Navid Negahban as the Sultan.

The film is set to arrive in theaters on May 24, 2019.
