Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat, best-known for creating and collaborating on BBC’s Sherlock, will be applying their successful storytelling formula to one of the greatest villains of all time – Count Dracula. The miniseries, based on the legendary Bram Stoker vampire story, will follow the Sherlock format of containing three 90-minute episodes in its planned first season.
The series will air on BBC One in the United Kingdom, but will be handled by Netflix for distribution in the United States and internationally. Dracula will take place in London circa 1897 and will focus on the titular character’s attempts to take over London.
“There have always been stories about great evil. What’s special about Dracula is that Bram Stoker gave evil its own hero,” Gatiss and Moffat said via a press release. There is currently no date set for Dracula’s premiere.
