Following his critical success in adapting the classic video game series Castlevania for Netflix, Adi Shankar has set his sights on another gaming franchise. According to a new report by IGN, he’ll be taking on Capcom’s Devil May Cry in what will be a new animated series. Shankar also shared the news via his personal Twitter account.

Shankar told IGN that the Devil May Cry series will be joining Castlevania in what they’re calling “the bootleg multiverse,” though it is as of yet unknown as to what that exactly entails. Shankar also said that he acquired the rights to the stylish action title.

The decision to pursue an adaptation of Devil May Cry was influenced by the success of Castlevania, which was just renewed for a third season on Netflix. Shankar said that Castlevania “really over-performed. It did crazy well… I wouldn’t have a job if it wasn’t for the fans.”

Devil May Cry first debuted for the PlayStation 2 in 2001, and takes inspiration from the Italian epic poem the Divine Comedy; it follows Dante as he seeks to exterminate demons, but must also deal with some personal skeletons in his closet. A new sequel, Devil May Cry 5, was announced at E3 2018 and is due out on March 8, 2019.
