Netflix has premiered the first trailer for their upcoming animated series, Carmen Sandiego, which is arriving on the streaming series on January 18, 2019.

The series will feature the voice of Gina Rodriguez as the titular red-clad hero, with Finn Wolfhard as Player. According to the trailer description, “Everybody asks ‘Where is Carmen Sandiego?,’ but nobody asks ‘Who is Carmen Sandiego?’ The iconic woman in red returns for new international capers and a peek into her past.”

The overall Carmen Sandiego franchise began in 1985 with the Broderbund video game, Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?, which quickly took off in popularity. A television game show of the same name ran from 1991 to 1995, featuring actress Lynne Thigpen as “The Chief” and eventually picking up seven Emmy Awards. The most recent video game entry, Carmen Sandiego Returns, arrived in 2015. The franchise has also included board games, books, animated television shows, and other media.
