As John G. Avildsen’s 1984 classic The Karate Kid prepares to celebrate its 35th anniversary, Quirk Books’ Pop Classics series is releasing a picture book adaptation of the film.
Kim Smith (Over the River & Through the Woods) illustrates the book, which is scheduled for release May 7, 2019, and will retail for $18.99.
Written by Robert Mark Kamen, The Karate Kid stars Ralph Macchio, Pat Morita and William Zabka. This underdog story follows Daniel LaRusso as he studies martial arts with his neighbor/mentor Mr. Miyagi.
The film grossed $91 million and spawned a franchise of related items and memorabilia, as well as a 2010 remake starring Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith. Zabka and Macchio recently returned to their iconic roles with YouTube’s Cobra Kai series. The show returns for its sophomore season on April 24, available to Youtube Premium subscribers.
