Sony has purchased Insomniac Games, recently known for last year’s smash hit Spider-Man game for the PlayStation 4. The purchase means that Insomniac will become an exclusive developer for the PlayStation.

Insomniac was founded in 1994, and the company got off to an immediate hot start with the success of Spyro the Dragon on the original PlayStation. While they worked very closely with Sony over the years with system-exclusive titles like Ratchet & Clank and Resistance, they also developed Sunset Overdrive for the Xbox One, among other titles for Microsoft and mobile systems.

Marvel’s Spider-Man for the PlayStation 4 became the company’s greatest commercial success, selling 13.2 million copies so far.
