Writer-director James Gunn has announced the full cast for the Suicide Squad reboot via Twitter. The list confirms the return of a few cast members from the 2016 Suicide Squad and plenty of new faces.

Margot Robbie will reprise Harley Quinn (in addition to playing her in the Birds of Prey movie), Viola Davis is returning as Amanda Waller, Jai Courtney is back as Captain Boomerang, and Joel Kinnaman will reprise Rick Flag.

Many newcomers have been added to the list, some of whom had been circulating the rumor mill for months. They include Idris Elba (Luthor), Nathan Fillion (Castle), John Cena (pro wrestler), Peter Capaldi (Doctor Who), Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok), and Pete Davidson (Saturday Night Live, reportedly as a cameo). Michael Rooker (Guardians of the Galaxy) is rumored to be playing King Shark, David Dastmalchian (The Dark Knight) is rumored to play Polka-Dot Man, and newcomer Daniela Melchior is reportedly in as Ratcatcher.

The cast is rounded out by Joaquín Cosio (Quantum of Solace), Mayling Ng (Wonder Woman), Flula Borg (Pitch Perfect 2), Sean Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy), Juan Diego Botto (Good Behavior), Storm Reid (A Wrinkle in Time), Alice Braga (Predators), Steve Agee (New Girl), Tinashe Kajese (Valor), Julio Ruiz (SWAT), and Jennifer Holland (Sun Records).

Though there are returning actors/characters, it is considered a reboot not a sequel. Cast members from the 2016 movie not returning include Will Smith as Deadshot, Cara Delevinge as Enchantress, Jared Leto as Joker, Karen Fukuhara as Katana, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc.

The Suicide Squad will be released on August 6, 2021.
