Batgirl #48 opens with Batgirl and Batwing pulled into a Scott Pilgrim video game-style fight before she reunites with Black Canary. Batgirl is still dealing with gaps in her memory after the evil AI messed up her mind. The lapses are becoming more frightening and Batgirl is ready for some answers, leading her and Black Canary to investigate the source of her memory loss, and possibly solve the problem of her nightmares.

Writers Cameron Stewart and Brenden Fletcher do a very good job of portraying the panic and desperation Batgirl is feeling while dealing with her memory issues. Bringing Black Canary into the story breathes new life with her winning combination of attitude and comedic effect. Babs Tarr’s art transitions well from the hyper colorful video game fight scene to the ominous bleakness found in Batgirl’s nightmare figure. It’s a good read for both teens and adults.
