Strawberry Shortcake is back! Strawberry and her friends are helping to refurbish the Berry Bitty City nursery when the baby ride goes kaput. Blueberry Muffin finds out about The Rail Days Baking Competition in Big Apple City, with a prize of a train vehicle on wheels. Perfect for the kids!
Naturally the girls encourage Strawberry Shortcake – the best baker they know – to enter the competition. First is a baking contest at a local county event. Strawberry will face three other chefs vying for the spot. But, when some competitors’ desserts get messier than they should, Strawberry suspects foul play. Is someone sabotaging the competition?
Strawberry Shortcake #1 “The Baby Berrykin Baking Challenge (Part 1 of 2)” was written by Georgia Ball, with art by Amy Mebberson and colors by Fernando Peniche. The first issue was nothing but delightful. The characters of Berry Bitty City are, forgive me, sweet as pie and the story is intriguing enough to entertain kids and adults, alike. Mebberson did a wonderful job on the art, making adorable, lively characters and Peniche’s colors are deliciously bright without being overbearing. Each panel is wonderfully crafted, filled with lovely imagery that propels Ball’s story forward. I can’t wait for issue two.
