Archie Comics; $3.99

The latest addition to the expanding “New Riverdale” line over at Archie comics is finally here, and it’s definitely worth the wait. Betty and Veronica highlights the rivalry between the two as narrated by none other than Hot Dog (yes, Jughead’s pet). The big issue that tears their friendship apart? Pop’s is being bought out by a big time corporate coffee company, owned by none other than Hiram Lodge himself – and Veronica has no inclination of having him back down.

Betty and Veronica is a welcome addition to this lineup of books, which so far otherwise consists of the Archie and Jughead reboots. Written and illustrated by Adam Hughes, it definitely has a different tone to it than the other books do, making for a solid change of pace. If there’s any complaint to be had, it’s that this book did nothing to show how the two became friends to begin with, as they’re not exactly on good terms in either Archie or Jughead yet. It’s a good jumping-on point for this line, though, and should be one to watch for as it continues.
