Greg continues his new adventure through The Unknown, and ends up running into a river he has no way of crossing. The boy and his frog run into a ghost, who informs them that they must make a pile of logs in order to cross. Unfortunately, there’s not enough logs to go around – all of the trees have been cut down. After running into his brother Wirt, he forms a plan to solve the mystery and continue on his journey.
Meanwhile, Anna, the Woodsman’s daughter, is out in the woods collecting food when she runs into a traveler, Jordan, and his dog. After running home to speak to the ghost of her mother, she learns that her family and his were friends when she was young. However, she continues to have trust issues with the people outside her home.
Over the Garden Wall has been spectacular since its return to comic shelves as an ongoing series, and this – thanks to the strong second half focusing on Anna – is one of the most emotional issues yet. At only four issues in, it’s not too late to get started on this excellent series.
