Get ready for the fun, the excitement, and the fashion of late ’70s TV. Wonder Woman ’77 Meets the Bionic Woman #1 begins with introductions for the uninitiated. Wonder Woman, a/k/a Diana Prince, is a superheroine with amazing strength and weapons, working for the Interagency Defense Command. Jaime Sommers is an intelligent, athletic woman who was given bionic body parts after an accident nearly killed her and now works for the Office of Scientific Intelligence.

Several government agencies have come together to stop a dangerous foe. The paramilitary cabal called Castra, led by American expatriate Ivan Karp, has already bombed a building and is likely planning bigger attacks. After Wonder Woman and the Bionic Woman work together through the bombing’s aftermath, Jaime Sommers and Diana Prince are tasked with protecting a doctor who may be the next target.

What a way to kick off the six-part miniseries! Writer Andy Mangels and artist Judit Tondora have combined their talents on a comic that embraces and embodies both TV shows. Wonder Woman and the Bionic Woman are both heroic and brave, working together in ways that utilize both of their strengths.

Mangels’ story is interesting and already setting up a fun, complicated adventure for the heroines while also pointing out the obvious, silly sexism of the time. Tondora’s art produces the feel of the period with some sweet ’70s clothing and a bit of the enjoyable cheesiness from the shows.

This is a great start for the title that brings together Dynamite and DC.
