When Justice League vs. Suicide Squad left off, Max Lord got the Heart of Darkness Diamond and infected Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg, and the Green Lanterns, turning them into his own army. In issue 5 (of 6) Lord has sent them out to secure and control various aspects of the world, while he took the White House with Superman.

Batman, Amanda Waller, and Deadshot got trapped underground, not knowing of the calamity that has befallen the world. Once they discover what has happened, Batman and the Suicide Squad start making a plan to stop the now-nearly untouchable Max Lord. But first, they need to get by the infected Justice League.

Joshua Williamson is doing a terrific job with this crossover miniseries. There are so many characters, so some do get pushed to the sidelines yet they have all been featured in some capacity, and the core of each team has been well represented. It’s exciting and dynamic with interesting fights and team-ups between the heroes and villains, blurring the lines between good and evil.

The art team of Robson Rocha, Jay Leisten, Daniel Henriques, Sandu Florea, Oclair Albert, Alex Sincliar, and Jeremiah Skipper are also doing a very good job. Again, with this many characters, things can get pretty complicated and confusing, but the artists are doing a good job of isolating pieces of the action in the panel structure and clean imagery of the characters involved.

I am both excited for and sad to see the conclusion of this story.
