Captain Marvel is back and mightier! Having left Civil War II behind, Captain Marvel is getting a new level of love from the public. There’s even a TV show, Cap’n Marvel, much to her chagrin.

In the debut issue of Mighty Captain Marvel she rescued a part-Kree alien child with a limited vocabulary that they’ve named Bean. In issue two, Cap is having problems with her powers firing a little too strongly without her say-so. It has resulted in mechanical and structural problems on the space station. Making life more complicated, the cast and crew of Cap’n Marvel are there to shoot the show and a shapeshifter is hiding among the assembled group, ready to cause some damage.

Personally, I am very happy to have Civil War II behind us and have Captain Marvel back to being her normal, heroic self. This issue, written by Margaret Stohl, was entertaining with a bit of comedy and action. Chewie, the adorable Flerken cat, is back in action, Bean is both adorable and forebodingly mysterious, and now Captain Marvel may need to seek help from one source she really doesn’t want to face right now.

Ramon Rosanas’ art and Michael Garland’s colors were also very good. The characters are emotive and drawn with clean precision, while the colors pop on nearly every page. The artists produce both a superhero and science fiction feel to the book.
