Archie Comics; $4.99

The Archies have been a pretty significant part of the Riverdale scene ever since the band came together in 1968 as part of the animated television series, The Archie Show. But we’ve come a long way from “Sugar, Sugar,” and the “New Riverdale” reboot for the comics hasn’t included the band in a meaningful way. Until now, of course.

Archie ends up landing a gig at a local club thanks to some string-pulling by Jughead. The only downside is that he doesn’t actually have a band. Some auditions later, The Archies form – but given that Archie is a magnet for drama, the band soon falls apart, and his fellow musicians turn to Reggie instead.

The Archies One-Shot is a pretty cute self-contained story that fits in nicely with the Riverdale universe that the company has worked on expanding since the reboot kicked off a few years ago. While there’s no “Sugar, Sugar” to be found in the pages of this book, it’s still a pretty sweet story that highlights the bonds these characters have (even Reggie, somehow). Anyone who’s been keeping up with the “New Riverdale” lineup will want to pick this one up.
