The folks at IDW are set to tell a twisty, turn-y murder mystery in their new five-issue limited series, Clue. The story follows the game, though with some updates, including that Mrs. White is now Senator White and other characters like Dr. Orchid, and Detectives Ochre and Amarillo have been added to the mix.

It still centers around the death of Mr. Boddy and the ensuing mystery of who killed him, where, and with what – along with why he invited this group of people to his house. While their names are the same, now the characters are a politician, scientist, pharmaceutical broker, rapper, aristocrat, and war hero.

It’s already obvious that this collection of people are no saints and anyone could’ve killed Mr. Boddy. It’s also clear that writer Paul Allor is having a blast writing it. There’s some tongue in cheek humor – Upton, the butler, has asides where he addresses the reader – and clear homage to the film version. Not only is the whodunit aspect intriguing, but all the little side conversations reveal tidbits of what will likely be a surprising, interconnected story.

IDW even added some bonus content. At the end of the issue there are three bonus pages that provide clues and there are three different versions of those final pages in different editions of the comic! Reminds me of one of my favorite movies…

Clue is off to a terrific start!
