This final issue of the Triple Feature anthology companion to the main Bitch Planet series packs quite a punch over the course of the three stories included: “Everyone’s Grandma is a Little Bit Feminist,” “Mirror, Mirror” and “Basic Bitch.” The latter two deal with some important topics – mainly, race relations and how the entertainment and media industry benefit from cultural appropriation.
However, my favorite of this issue is “Everyone’s Grandma is a Little Bit Feminist,” not just because I enjoy a well-written feisty older woman, but because I think it provides the best sort of backstory expansion to the world of the main book by showing how it was before. It shows that society in this world moved backwards when it came to women’s rights, as Grandma can remember a time when women were actually allowed to work.
Bitch Planet continues to be remarkably topical, both in the main series and in this anthology. It’s definitely a standout series for Image and I can’t wait to see how the story plays out.
