Dynamite; $3.99

The latest James Bond comic from Dynamite has finally arrived! This new issue offers readers an interesting perspective on the life of 007. Rather than drop readers directly into the middle of the action, this issue opens with a heavily injured Bond undergoing a post-mission medical examination.

Given his line of work and the level of baddies he deals with, this is clearly a routine check-up for Bond. A point further evidenced by his easy conversation with the doctor and his contentment in answering his many questions. Of course, certain facts are better kept to himself. As the doctor examines each cut, bruise, and broken bone, Bond relays how each injury connects to a specific event in his previous mission. After hearing plans for an assassination attempt, the secret service send Bond to infiltrate a party and save the target. Easier said than done when Bond knows neither the mark or the killer. Bond must rely on body language and his power of observation to save the day.

Ales Kot has crafted a truly action-packed story that explores the connection between a man whose purpose is to save lives and one whose purpose is to take them. Meanwhile Casalanguida’s heavy art style gives the entire comic a more intense feel.
