In 1954, the legendary Joe Simon and Jack Kirby introduced readers to the pure embodiment of the American superhero. Now, over 60 years since his initial debut, the Fighting American has returned in an all-new series from Titan Comics.

Rather than facing down “the Commies” in the 1950s, this new series launches the icon of truth and justice headfirst into the 21st century. Fighting American and his teenage sidekick, Speedboy, were hot on the trail of a gang of villains seemingly plucked from their past. Just as they prepared to deliver a red, white and blue beating, both the villains and the heroes ended up in 21st century New York. In addition to the enemies from their past, Fighting American and Speedboy must contend with modern day villains and come to terms with a whole new world. Can the heroes return to the 1950s, or will the 21st century need more two-fisted justice?

Fighting American Volume 1: Brave New World collects issues 0-4 of the miniseries and is a great way to catch up before the planned follow-up miniseries. Gordon Rennie perfectly captures the voice of Simon and Kirby’s character, while giving him a modern twist. Meanwhile, the bold artist styles by Duke Mighten and PC De La Fuente bring the entire story to life.
