Cable has been dealing with a pretty nasty techno-organic monster throughout the various places in time he’s chosen to skip to, and he can never quite escape the thing. This issue explores the first time Cable encountered the creature, Metus, during his childhood spent in the future where Apocalypse reigns supreme. Perhaps more importantly, it looks at how Metus actually became the terrifying, stalking monstrosity that’s tormented Cable throughout his history – and what Cable himself can do to rid himself of it.

Though Cable always comes off as pretty stone-faced and stoic, this arc has been an interesting look at the emotional depth that lies beneath the surface. We’ve seen him terrified, we’ve witnessed his courage, and we’ve been reminded of what has grounded him throughout his strange and complex history – his family. This particular arc has been a lot of fun to read, though it looks like Cable will have an important role to play in the upcoming “Extermination” event, meaning that Cable will likely be a book to continue paying attention to in the coming months.
