After being given a time-traveling plunger by an odd man in a top hat named Alphonse Gamble, Deadpool sets to traveling throughout time in order to try and find his mother. Of course, Gamble has other things planned, and the whole time-traveling thing immediately gets the attention of Cable, who is perpetually trying to make sure that the time-space continuum doesn’t collapse in upon itself. What follows is a series of shenanigans as the duo do their best to save Wade’s “mom” from Gamble while also making sure they still have a universe to return to after all of it is over.

I’ve always been a fan of the Cable & Deadpool runs, and having a nice little Annual issue like this is nice; it feels good to have a bit of the wacky, light-hearted fare around when the mutants of the Marvel universe are otherwise getting into some more serious, dramatic business in Extermination. This is one long self-contained story handled by several different artists, and while all of the art styles are very different from each other, whoever was in charge managed to make sure that they flowed nicely into one another as to not cause any visual whiplash. If you’re a fan of either of these characters, this is definitely a worthwhile pickup.
