The good news is that the universe still exists. The bad news is that Gamora, having collected all of the Infinity Stones, maybe, possibly folded the universe in half, creating a new existence in which those left over are totally unaware of their warped origins. In this strange new world, Stephen Strange and Steve Rogers have been fused into a single person – Stephen Rogers – who possesses traits and the background story of both.

A weakling, Stephen wanted to join the armed forces in order to support his country, but was injected with a substance that gave him strange and mystical powers. Able to conjure an indestructible shield, he takes on a powerfully evil being known as Dormammu Red, a “priest of hell” working for the Nazi regime.

The “mashup” characters created in this event are all pretty cool, but the Soldier Supreme might be the coolest so far. It’s certainly a fun take on the whole “what-if” kind of storyline that Marvel has long been known for, and I’m pretty interested in seeing where things go from here. While this story so far seems to be leaning into more of a Captain America narrative with Doctor Strange powers, it’s balanced enough to be a lot of fun.
