After traveling through time to meet Mary Shelley and Edgar Allan Poe, Elvira has landed in 1890 to meet Bram Stoker. And, Vlad the Impaler is still on her tail, naturally. After Vlad ensnares Stoker’s wife with his hypnosis, Elvira works on a plan to end this time jumping adventure. While doing so, she makes a heck of a discovery.
David Avallone wrote another fun and funny issue of Elvira: Mistress of the Dark. She’s breaking the fourth wall, peppering in some pop culture jokes, and being her typical loveably naughty self. The story is paced very well with a solid blend of action sequences, dialogue, and story. The cameos have been done very well with just the right amount of homage and mockery.
Artist Dave Acosta and colorist Andrew Covalt set the tone, giving Elvira plenty of cheeky expressions and making Vlad downright scary. The setting in this issue is gothic romantic and a perfect way to keep that Halloween feeling going for a few more days.
