Following a detour to address the first issue of Heroes in Crisis, Green Arrow returns to the unsettling, yet intriguing, story of the Citizen. Green Arrow has upped his investigations following more drastic violence and an accusation against Oliver Queen.
The Citizen has encouraged and incited people to attack one percenters throughout the city. Now, Green Arrow has to pull triple duty – try to uncover Citizen’s identity, protect people from mob violence, and keep himself safe.
This story is a doozy. Citizen is a good comic book villain and this title isn’t afraid to go dark, which makes for some genuine shocks. But, it’s also a sociological study with tension that can be seen currently in the U.S. Additionally, the Citizen considers himself to be a protector of the city, stepping on the toes of superheroes and their often unquestioned judgement made outside of the law.
Julie Benson and Shawna Benson are writing a very good story and I can’t wait for the next issue.
