The Warners, to an untrained eye, may seem like an ordinary nuclear family. Of course, this is a Marvel comic, so that’s hardly the case – they’re Skrulls, and they have a mission to carry out. The youngest daughter, Alice, is having difficulties in dealing with adolescence, which is interfering with her target. But just as Alice is starting to figure out a way to get back at that target (in more ways than one), a newer problem arises in the form of a Skrull hunter.

This book is a really interesting, and very nuanced look at who the Skrulls are and what their entire culture is all about. By intermingling the galaxy-spanning espionage with very down-to-Earth teen drama, it’s resulting in a kind of story you don’t see very often. There’s a lot of great moments in this issue and I’m officially hooked. I can’t wait to see what happens to Alice next.
