Flash #70 was a fun reintroduction to Barry Allen as he gets his abilities and starts experimenting with them. But, then things took a nice cliffhanger turn when he unlocked a certain time travel ability and ended up standing in front of his much older self in a decayed version of Central City.

Older Barry gives Year One Barry a quick summary of the situation, including which villain is to blame for Central City’s current situation. As they spend time together, Year One Barry is mystified by older Barry’s abilities and positive attitude while facing some pretty steep odds. Can the younger man measure up? More importantly – does he want to?

I’m enjoying the “Year One” arc by Josh Williamson and Howard Porter. Taking a break from the larger mythos is a nice change of pace, as we get to see Barry learn about his powers and confront his self-consciousness and fear. The excitement he feels when discovering a new ability or harnessing power gives a jolt of enjoyment to the reader.
