Dynamite; $3.99

Elvira has been pulled over by a pair of government agents from the US Department of Fish and Wildlife who claim that her costar is actually a South American River Monsters. There goes her Daniel Day-Lewis or Christian Bale theory. Their assertion that Gill is a monster makes Elvira pay more attention to his behavior to determine if he’s a fish man or a really devoted method actor.

This issue was another great one for the Mistress of the Dark. It starts off with David Avallone’s biting wit and punchy dialogue, then has moments of sincerity, before taking a turn of suspense. It’s a nice story with clever jokes and heart, seen through the attractive and versatile art of Fran Strukan and colors of Maxim Šimić.
