Peter Parker has a lot to contend with. On top of discovering that the kindly Martin Li had quite the negative side to him, his lab boss – Otto Octavius – has been working on a set of prosthetics to assist him once his human limbs no longer function. So of course, after putting Mister Negative behind bars (for now), Otto’s limbs and newfound power, combined with his thirst for revenge, get the better of him. Can Peter possibly take on his mentor?

City at War has, so far, been a really faithful adaptation of the source material – last year’s PlayStation 4 Spider-Man video game, which itself was a stellar storytelling experience. As it’s primarily focused on the storyline, there isn’t much room to go into the game-y little tidbits, but fortunately the creative team has hidden a lot of them as fun-to-find Easter Eggs in the backgrounds. Though the story very much stands on its own, being able to treat existing fans of the game like that is pretty cool too. My only gripe about this issue is that I don’t feel like it did Spider-Man’s battle against Mister Negative the kind of cinematic justice that the video game fight set it up for. That aside, this is a super fun romp through one of the best Spidey stories we’ve gotten in any media in a while.
