After their last adventure left them marooned in a frozen terrain, Xena, Gabrielle, and the banished god, Discord, must seek civilization and shelter from the frigid elements. Lucky for them, they find a strange cottage nestled in the cold woods where a seemingly normal old woman resides. But, in a time of gods and magic, normal is never actually normal.

This issue by Vita Ayala reads like a fairy tale. There’s folklore, magic, misunderstanding, and several other elements found in those stories. It’s an enjoyable read for the overall story and the character driven emotional moments. Despite her spoiled, surly disposition, Discord is showing signs of becoming a better being. Xena and Gabrielle’s relationship gets a bit more attention in this issue by showing the warrior princess’ sweeter side.

The art by Jordi Pérez and colors by Rebecca Nalty present the story with beauty and imagination. The emotional aspects are clearly expressed, and the setting captures the fairy tale side of things nicely.
