J.V. Gray via Kickstarter; $20

Writer Justin Gray is known for, among other things, his numerous collaborations with writer Jimmy Palmiotti, including their powerful tenure on Jonah Hex and subsequently All Star Western. If you’ve followed his career either on his own or in his other collaborations with Palmiotti, you’re already aware that he doesn’t like repeatedly covering the same ground and is most often looking for something new to take on.

He’s done that with his latest graphic novel, Arthur Blackfrost. This 8-1/2” x 11” format original graphic novel is a dark fantasy about a young fisherman trying to break the curse that has plagued his family for centuries.

The book is beautifully illustrated by Laura Rimaszombati, whose work I hadn’t encountered previously, but who brings a unique style complimented by vibrant colors that she uses to bring Gray’s story to life.

As this was produced for Kickstarter, I have no idea if Justin’s going to make it available through other channels, but I really hope he does. If you love fantasy and beautiful art, it’s hard for me to recommend enough that you seek this one out.
