Dynamite; $3.99
Elvira is done traveling through time and working her way through the levels of Hell and is back on the set of her new movie. After a brief, fourth wall breaking scene with Dracula, Elvira chats with the director Floyd (who bares striking resemblance to B-movie director Lloyd Kaufman), and then heads home for some much needed rest. Or so she thinks.
After providing a handy recap to her dog (and readers), Elvira settles in for a bath – which is the moment she’s interrupted. A society that’s trying to amass power by tracking Luciferian energy has busted into Elvira’s house. Seriously, she can’t catch a break from the weirdos.
This issue by David Avallone is full of pop culture references from poking fun at Marvel to referencing The Wizard of Oz and artist Dave Acosta’s homage to Jim Starlin. It has Elvira’s wit and cleverly dirty sense of humor, a fun new adventure for our heroine, and plenty of additional comedy. Acosta creates page after page of funny expressions, showing Elvira’s levels of exasperation with this new batch of knuckleheads.
As expected it ends with things about to get even crazy for our Mistress of the Dark.
