IDW presented announcements and shared story details on current and upcoming comics during their IDW Publishing: The Rise of Fall panel.

First, they made the announcement that Sonic the Hedgehog comics are coming to IDW in 2018. With the goal of appealing to all-age readers, they will tell lots of fun stories from this family-friendly title, including some about the vast amount of supporting characters.

In Samurai Jack the titular character gets lost in time and goes sideways, ending up in alternate places and meeting different versions of himself. The panelists told attendees that it’ll feel similar to older comics but with an updated style. They quipped that it’s like Quantum Leap meets Samurai Jack.

The next Jem & the Holograms series will be Jem Dimensions. They were reluctant to share details on the four-issue anthology, but did tell attendees that they are bringing in more creators to do short stories.

The all ages title, Star Wars Adventures, was inspired by Star Wars UK comics. It will tell stories from all eras, starting with one about Rey before she met BB-8, one about Fin is coming up, as well as stories from the prequels. An ashcan was available at the IDW Publishing booth.

From there, they dove into news about Star Trek. First, they presented Star Trek Graphic Novel Collection, an Eaglemoss project that puts together a variety of comics and characters, including a prequel, we’ll see the Leonard Nimoy version of Spock, Data, and others.

The first issue of Star Trek Discovery will be out in October. They didn’t provide many details, but did say that it is being co-written with one of the TV show staff writers and that we’ll see the Klingons.

Star Trek Boldly Go is about to begin the “I.D.I.C.” storyline. The six-issue event will explore parallel realities and versions of characters, then have them meet each other. The audience got to see the cover of the first issue, out in October, which shows the Kirk we know, one of him as a villain, one as a woman, one where he was raised by the Romulans, and others.

Then they made the exclusive announcement that IDW will be making Goosebumps comics. The three-issue arc is about two sisters spending a boring summer at Grandma’s house. They go to a bookstore, but when they leave, everything has changed and they are in Horror Land. The comic will feature monsters from the original book series, though in new stories and situations.

Other announcements included the next X-Files arc which will explore the story of who killed JFK; projects with Glénat, that include The Highest House then Lowlifes; Gears of War ‒ exploring the vast universe; and a retelling of 30 Days of Night in a different way, that’ll see people in town brought to life more than the original story.
