Brian Michael Bendis is already very busy at DC Comics. The company announced that Bendis will take on writing duties on multiple Superman titles. First up is a short story that will be illustrated by DC co-publisher Jim Lee and will appear in Action Comics #1000, out on April 18, 2018.
Then on May 30, the first of Bendis’ six-issue weekly Man of Steel miniseries hits comic shops. It’ll be drawn by Ivan Reis, Evan Shaner, Ryan Sook, Adam Hughes, Kevin Maguire, and Jason Fabok. DC has stated that the miniseries will add new twists to the final days of Krypton and a new perspective on Clark’s path to becoming Superman.
Next up, Bendis will write and Reis will draw the new ongoing Superman series, which will follow the Man of Steel miniseries, out on July 11. Also in July, he’ll also takeover writing Action Comics with issue 1001. It’ll feature new heroes and villains will be introduced and there will be more focus on Clark’s role at the Daily Planet.
Bendis is also bringing his creator-owned comic universe Jinxworld to DC, including noir crime books Jinx and Scarlet, as well as new stories from Powers and The United States of Murder Inc. They will be in his curated imprint of titles similar to Gerard Way’s Young Animals line.
“It’s going to be a select series of special comics, and we’ll debut what those are later in the year,” Bendis said. “I’ll be writing some of those and curating the others, but they’ll all be under this imprint and add a very special flavor to the DC Universe. I’m happy to say it will star some of my all-time favorite DC characters in unique situations, and that I could not be more excited for.”
