In 2020, The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide reached its 50th anniversary and part of the celebration of this milestone was held during Comic-Con@Home.

The virtual event hosted “The Guide: Overstreet’s 50th Anniversary” panel on Saturday, July 25, bringing together a panel of industry pros with deep knowledge of the Guide and comic history. They included Gemstone Publishing President and CEO Steve Geppi, MyComicShop.com’s Buddy Saunders, Comics Buyer’s Guide veteran Maggie Thompson, CBCS Primary Grader Steve Borock, and Gemstone’s Creative Director Mark Huesman, with Gemstone’s Vice-President of Publishing J.C. Vaughn serving as moderator.

Throughout the panel, which is just under an hour long, they recalled how they became fans of comics, how they discovered the Guide, and their first impressions of the content and covers. Geppi recounted buying the Guide and his position as steward of the book.

Each shared their opinion on the Guide’s impact, pointing out how it fosters community, how it differs from other hobby price guides, the way it presents comic history, and how it is a common denominator between different publishers.

Panelists also discussed the future of the Guide and the prospect of going digital, their experiences meeting Guide creator Robert M. Overstreet, and their favorite Guide covers.
