On Friday, July 28, 2023, Time Warp Comics & Games of Boulder, Colorado was broken into and thousands of dollars in merchandise was stolen. The theft occurred at 3:30 AM, when the suspect who was described as “long and gangly” smashed the front door with a hammer. Then the suspect broke a glass case near the door and stole $13,000 in comics.
“He definitely knew exactly what he came in here for,” owner Wayne Winsett said. “It’s obviously a customer or somebody that’s very familiar with the store. He had a backpack, knew exactly where to go, what to take fast and was in and out in less than two minutes.”
Winsett stated that when the burglar alarm sounded, he slept through it and didn’t learn of the break-in until around 7 AM. When he arrived at the store, the police were already lifting fingerprints from the doorframe.
Based on the store’s surveillance video, it does not appear that the suspect was wearing gloves, however he wore a mask and hoodie to cover his face. The video footage caught the suspect’s vehicle in the parking lot, which was a 2016-2018 white Acura. The license plate was not identifiable; however, it is being sent to a video expert who specializes in cleaning up and analyzing images.
Boulder Police Department spokesperson Dionne Waugh said that anyone with information about the theft should call (303) 441-3333 and reference case number 23-7195.
