Jessica Gao, the Emmy-winning writer behind Adult Swim’s popular Rick and Morty episode “Pickle Rick,” is lending her talents to Disney+ for the She-Hulk series. The writer has signed on to develop and lead the writing team for the upcoming series from Marvel Studios.

Created by Stan Lee and John Buscema, Jennifer Walters is a powerhouse attorney who is transformed into the She-Hulk following an emergency blood transfusion from her cousin Bruce Banner, a/k/a the Hulk. Walters acquired a milder version of his Hulk condition, enabling her to retain her intelligence, emotional control and personality when in Hulk mode. She-Hulk has since served as a member of the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, Heroes for Hire, the Defenders, Fantastic Force and SHIELD.

While her initial comic appearances saw a more serious tone, later issues played up the comedic conflict of a muscular, green-hued lawyer serving as legal counsel. The hiring of Gao may point to Marvel’s approach for the series.

Along with her work on Rick and Morty, Gao wrote episodes of Nickelodeon’s The Mighty B, HBO’s Silicon Valley along with writing and executive producing a comedy pilot for ABC entitled Lazy Rich Asians.
