Disney’s live-action remake of The Little Mermaid has found its prince in London-based actor Jonah Hauer-King. The up-and-coming actor reportedly beat out Krypton’s Cameron Cuffe for the role of Ariel’s love interest, after Harry Styles previously backed off.

Hauer-King will star alongside Halle Bailey as Ariel, Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Awkwafina as Scuttle and Jacob Tremblay as Flounder. Javier Bardem is reportedly in talks to play King Triton.

An adaptation of the Hans Christian Andersen story, Disney’s original animated movie hit theaters in 1989. The film follows a mermaid princess named Ariel who dreams of becoming human, after falling in love with a human prince named Eric.

The live-action Little Mermaid is being produced by Rob Marshall, John DeLuca, Marc Platt, and Lin-Manuel Miranda and will feature Alan Menken and Howard Ashman’s beloved songs from the original film. However, Menken (music) and Miranda (lyrics) will also be composing new songs for the remake.

Although relatively new, Hauer-King appeared in the BBC miniseries Little Women, Danny Huston’s drama The Last Photograph, A Dog’s Way Home, The Song of Names, and World on Fire. He will also be featured in the upcoming film Once Upon a Time in Staten Island, opposite Naomi Watts and Bobby Cannavale.

The Little Mermaid does not yet have a release date.
