During CCXP19 in Brazil, Marvel’s Chief Creative Officer discussed the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and how the concept of the Multiverse will play a vital role.
“When we first started the MCU, it was all about Tony Stark. Introduce the world to Tony Stark and that Iron Man armor,” Feige started. “Then [we] went on to teach people what Asgardians were and learn about super soldiers then bring them together in Avengers. I’ve always loved space movies and I’ve always loved big intergalactic tales, which is why we did Guardians and the audience came with us so we could do a movie like Endgame. I always wanted to do time travel, which we finally got to do in Endgame.
The multiverse is the next step in the evolution of the MCU and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is going to crack it open in ways that will have repercussions for a Disney+ series before it that’s not WandaVision and for movies after it in a big fun way.”
The unnamed series seemingly refers to Loki, which Feige previously shared would tie into Multiverse of Madness.
“Disney+ is going to give us this opportunity to tell even deeper stories with characters you already know and love…in a new type of cinematic way that we haven’t done before,” Feige said. “We’ve already started shooting two of them and they’re very, very special. And it all, for the first time, will interlink. So, the MCU will be on your TV screen at home on Disney+ and interconnect with the movies and go back and forth. It’s exciting to expand the MCU into even bigger and better heights.”
Marvel has already started principal photography on WandaVision for Disney+, which is set to debut Spring 2021 while Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will hit theaters on May 7, 2021.
Additional Marvel Studios projects to debut in the coming years include Black Widow (May 2020), The Falcon and The Winter Soldier (Fall 2020), The Eternals (November 2020), Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (February 2021) Loki (Spring 2021), Spider-Man 3 on (July 2021), What If…? (Summer 2021), Hawkeye (Fall 2021), Thor: Love and Thunder (November 2021), and Black Panther 2 (May 2022).
