Roleplaying game artist Jim Holloway died on June 28, 2020, peacefully and surrounded by family, according to his son Mike Holloway who shared the news on Facebook. For that post, Mike also shared an image of the painting his father did for The Hobbit.

Since 1981, Holloway became an in-demand artist from the early days of pen and paper RPGs, creating art for Dungeons & Dragons books and Dragon magazine. He also provided cover art for The Land Beyond the Magic Mirror, Dungeonland, Mad Monkey vs. the Dragon Claw, and the Spelljammer: AD&D Adventures in Space box set.

He was the original artist for the Paranoia game and did cover art for Tales from the Floating Vagabond. He did art in the BattleTech line of games, as well as work on games like Chill and Sovereign Stone. Additionally, he designed the opening and closing animation for the Beyond Shadowgate video game.
