Valiant has created a virtual portfolio review program for aspiring comic book creators to help them improve and find new voices for future projects. With so many conventions cancelled or postponed, this program will offer digital one on one portfolio reviews for aspiring interior artists, cover artists, colorists, and letterers.

Valiant senior editors Heather Antos (Quantum & Woody, X-O Manowar) and Lysa Hawkins (Rai, Bloodshot) will participate in these virtual one on one sessions, which will run for approximately ten minutes.

The digital portfolio reviews will be held on Thursday and Friday, July 9-10, 2020, from 12 PM to 2 PM ET each day. Ten people will be selected per day.  

To participate, email a submission to PortfolioReview@valiantentertainment.com. The subject line should include your name, discipline (for example, cover artist), and preferred session date. Submissions should be a single PDF document with an information page in the back that includes your name, a link to your online portfolio, and your contact information.

Submission deadlines are Wednesday, July 8 at 12 PM ET for the July 9 session, and Thursday, July 9 at 12 PM ET for the July 10 session. Those selected will be notified by no later than 10 PM ET each night.

Valiant has also given some submission suggestions. Interior artists: feature action beats and talking heads; letterers: include a variety of genres and SFX; colorists: present covers and interiors; and all submitters: include no more than 15 pages of materials.

“With convention season on pause due to the pandemic, it’s been important to us at Valiant to continue the outreach with both fans and creators alike that we would normally be able to do in person – and that includes one-on-one portfolio reviews with up-and-coming talent,” Antos said. “Furthermore, we recognize that not every creator out there has the means or ability to travel to conventions, and it’s important to us to be as accessible as possible to those creators looking to get their feet in the door.”
