Stargirl has been renewed for a second season on The CW and will available exclusively on the network and its digital platforms. Season two will not stream at DC Universe. This changes the current format of streaming new episodes on the DCU then airing on The CW.

Stargirl tells an updated story of the Justice Society of America, featuring high schooler Courtney Whitmore (Brec Bassinger) who becomes Stargirl when her mother remarries former Stripesy Pat Dugan (Luke Wilson). As she makes her presence known, the Injustice Society takes notice and starts reconvening. This prompts Courtney to start recruiting fellow high schoolers to become the new JSA.

The show premiered on May 18, 2020 on the DCU, followed by The CW on May 19. The show has done well, especially for one that debuted in the summer. Ratings have averaged 0.2 for adults 18-49 and just over 1 million viewers per episode, putting it on par with other DC superhero shows.

Stargirl was the first DCU show that transferred to The CW, though it was recently announced that the network got the broadcast rights to run Swamp Thing. Episode 8 of the 13-episode first season airs this week.
