Nia DaCosta has been tapped to direct Captain Marvel 2. DaCosta, who directed the highly anticipated Candyman reboot, is taking the helm following Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck’s co-direction of 2019’s Captain Marvel.

Her work gained notice for the indie film Little Woods, starring Tessa Thompson. Candyman was supposed to be in theaters in June but was pushed back to October 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In June, DaCosta dropped a shadow puppet trailer for the movie that has gained lots of positive buzz for the creativity and content.

Brie Larson will return as the titular heroine for Captain Marvel 2. It is being written by Megan McDonnell, who is currently a story editor on Marvel’s upcoming Disney+ series WandaVision. It is currently slated for release on July 8, 2022.
