Lucy Liu has joined New Line’s DC film Shazam! Fury of the Gods as the villainess Kalypso. She will portray Atlas’ second daughter and sister to Hespera, who will be played by Helen Mirren. Newcomer Rachel Zegler, whose character has not been named yet, is expected to be the third daughter.

Liu is no stranger to action films having starred in Charlie’s Angels, Kill Bill, and Shanghai Noon, and the TV series Southland.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods is the sequel to 2019’s Shazam! – a movie that had a comedic take on the superhero genre that differed from the more serious DC Extended Universe movies. The sequel sees Zachary Levi back as the titular superhero with Asher Angel back to play the teenage version of Billy Batson.

The movie will be released on June 2, 2023. David F. Sandberg is back to direct and Henry Gayden returned to write the script. Jack Dylan Grazer and Adam Brody are reprising their roles as teenage Freddy Freeman and the superhero version.
