Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been a headline maker throughout his career on the field, but now he’s adding another accolade off the field. Mahomes’ 2017 National Treasures NFL Shield signed rookie card sold for $4.3 million, according to PWCC, who brokered the sale.

PWCC reported the sale on July 28, 2021, which makes it the highest price ever paid for a football card. The card was purchased by LJ’s Card Shop. In a tweet, PWCC shared that the card shop called it “truly a piece of art” and stated that they were “honored to add this card to our collection.”

This bested the previous record for most valuable football card, set by Tom Brady’s 2000 Playoff Contenders Championship Rookie Ticket #144 Tom Brady rookie autograph card that sold for $2.25 million at Lelands on April 2, 2021.

Mahomes and Brady rookie cards have been battling each other for the record price on a nearly monthly basis in 2021. In February, a Mahomes card set the record at $861,000, then in March a Brady rookie sold for $1.32 million through PWCC Marketplace. That was followed by Brady’s card besting its own record in April and now Mahomes’ card is back on top as of July 2021.
